Catrigg Force is a fine example of a waterfall just above the village of Stainforth. It is hidden away so an exciting find.
The walk starts in the main Yorkshire Dales National Park car park and heads into the village, following it round past the church to the stepping stones across the river. Crossing these the path starts at the bottom of the hillside following the track up. It’s a steep climb so take it slow! Nearing the top a Woodland will appear on the left hand side and you will hear the sound of the water way before you get to it.
To reach the waterfall you take the path leading to the top of the wood and then follow it down to see the waterfall emerge before you! There is a pool in front which looked so inviting so we will definitely like to return in the summer for a dip.
The views from the track walking up too are lovely, right down the valley. Such a typically Dales landscape.
Have you seen the salmon jumping at Stainforth Force? Or tried these other waterfall walks; Buckden Beck waterfalls, Janet’s Foss and Ingleton Waterfalls?
