We were back on the east coast of Yorkshire this weekend checking out South Cliff Holiday Park‘s newest attraction: The Edge Aerial Adventure. And what an adventure that was! Thrill seekers, adrenaline junkies and daredevils only! The most adrenaline fueled family weekend on the Yorkshire Coast we have ever had!
This was a PR Invite however all the opinions are my own honest ones.
The Edge Aerial Adventure review
This purpose built high and low ropes course on the complex was opened this summer and so far has been a huge hit. We tried out the course and oh my god, what an experience. Terrifying, challenging but so rewarding once you get down. Well that was my opinion on the low ropes course. Not sure I would have managed the high ropes one.
Both courses have about 20 sections around that you need to navigate across. You are constantly hooked up to the main rail system so you can’t fall which is reassuring. Each section pushing you to the edge in more ways than one. Testing your nerve, balance and skill it really does push you through your limits.
I went on the low ropes course with Charlie, my eldest who is 6 (nearly 7). This course is for age 6+ so I thought he would be ok. He was nervous climbing up and once on the top his nerves ramped up. Slowly and shakily he started to progress but it all got too much and he wanted to come down. The instructor was straight up and guided him back down the way we came (there is no quick rescue, once you are on you are on!). I was so proud of him for attempting it though. So moral of the story… age 8 I think. Even for just the knack of getting the safety rope over the catches for each section.
High vs Low Ropes
As we were dealing with that my Dad and husband had stormed ahead and had climbed straight up to the high ropes to give that course a go, not thinking they may want a practise on the Low course. Not for the faint hearted up there. Every time I called up to see how they were doing I was met with a stern look of concentration and men in a state of ‘what are we doing?!’.
I debated whether to go back on after coming off with Charlie but pulled my big girl knickers on, took a huge deep breath and got back on. My thrill seeking nature from my 20’s had well and truly disappeared but something must still have been there as my gut was telling me to do it.
Climbing back up I was anxious but once on, got into the swing of it, and made my way around each section. Abby, my guide, was great on the ground, supporting me, shouting up words of encouragement and tips to tackle each section. The last bit and best bit was the zip line down to victory. Bloody hell I did it!! What a feeling.
The guys on the other hand were in a little bit of a different mind set at this point… declaring never again. An hour or so later they were still talking about it, smiles had replaced their worried looks, joints had started to relax and this story I know will be one they will be telling for some time!!

South Cliff Holiday Park
South Cliff Holiday Park is a holiday park comprising of static caravans, camping pitches and tourer caravan pitchers. The site is located next to Bridlington Park and Ride so South of the town centre, less than 10 minutes drive. The perfect spot for a family weekend on the Yorkshire Coast.
Ideal location for your family weekend on the Yorkshire Coast
Here you can get access to the beach at Winsthorpe which leads straight onto Bridlington South Beach. A vast sandy beach which is perfect for walks, football and sandcastle building. Or in our case car hiding! Sand dunes line this section which the boys enjoyed running down.
The path from the site along the coastline is flat and super pram friendly. There is a concrete ramp down to the beach too to the right of the site. Further along to the left the beach access is either sand or steps.
The coastline path leads on to the promenade and from here you can walk the mile to the harbour. The land train chugs along this section too which is always a hit with the little ones, tired legs or for saving a bit of time.
Between here and the harbour there are plenty of ice cream shops, coffee shops, public toilets, all the beach huts, the paddling pool, life boat station and Brid Spa the famous theatre. At the harbour and town centre you have everything you need with shops, restaurants and a plethora of icecream donut and waffle stations! We sampled them all 😋
Back to the holiday park and its facilities
A great quiet site with plenty of grassed areas for the boys to play football and a number of playgrounds. A large one next to The Edge Aerial Adventure, then another one next to the centre facilities.
In the centre you will find Makis a pub serving food, an amusement arcade, a mini mart and a fish and chips takeaway. The opening times for all are really good so you can access them most of the time regardless of the season. There’s also a food truck that comes in the mornings serving tea coffee cake and breakfast sandwiches.
For the accommodation there is a variety to chose from. We were staying in a standard 3 bed static caravan. It was clean, functional and cosy. Although basic there was everything you needed in the fully equipped kitchen, WiFi and tv. The bedrooms were small with a double, and 2 twin rooms. Surprisingly comfy, toasty warm in the night (no dip to freezing temperatures come 3am) but a little on the small side in terms of width. But ample for the kids and we all got a good nights sleep so definitely can’t complain.
If you are wanting a basic reasonably priced family weekend on the Yorkshire Coast then this is definitely recommended by us.
Check out the site here for availability.
