Location: WF2 6QP
Distance: 1.8 miles
Newmillerdam is a brilliant place for a walk! We have only just discovered it and already can’t wait to go back!
The Gnome Roam is a themed walk within the woodland which is 1.8 miles long. You will however do more due to running off exploring in every direction!!
You can download the route off the Wakefield council website here if you would like but you don’t need to, just follow the signs and look out for the gnomes! There are activities to do at each one such as look for wildlife and use the magnifying glass to inspect creepy crawlies.
The woodland is gorgeous too, so many different types of trees, terrain and lots of paths to explore. This wildlife is friendly too – we managed to get up close with a squirrel and a few ducks! When we were there (end of April) the bluebells were out – it was beautiful!
We could have easily spent another couple of hours exploring. Next time I’d like to walk round the whole of the lake and explore the board walk area. There looked to be a couple of good pubs too around for a pub lunch!
Pram Friendly route
The paths are pram friendly around the wood and the lake too which is an added bonus. Car parking was free for the first 2 hours (make sure you get a ticket though) and then £1.30 for up to 4 hours. The car park was full when we got there at 10.30am on a weekday so get there early!
Why not try Yorkshire Sculpture Park or Room on the Broom trail at Anglers Park if you visit here as they are only a short drive away!
