Location: Burnsall, BD23 6BU
Distance: 2.2 miles (return)
This section of the Dales Way footpath is one of our favourites. It is a short route following the River Wharfe with plenty to see along the way.
Parking can be free on the roadside in Burnsall if you get there early. Otherwise there are a few car parks. There is also the Red Lion pub, an ice cream van or two and a cafe waiting for you on your return.
The walk starts at Burnsall Bridge and follows the river upstream. The reason we like this route is because you can add on other variations, the scenery is stunning and you can also paddle in the summer! The area around Burnsall Bridge is great for a family day out; park up in the field and have a full day walking, paddling and picnicking.
The end of the route is marked by the Hebden Suspension Bridge which is a wobbly one! So great fun to bounce your way over and back, or if you are feeling brave (and they aren’t hidden) you can cross the stepping stones.
The first section of this walk along the river is accessible too.
You can extend the walk by heading up to the village of Hebden and then up to Scale Haw Force waterfall. Or keep following the Dales Way towards Grassington via Linton Falls.
